The I Share the Road Portrait Gallery

[Traffic Division Commander

Allow me to introduce the I Share the Road Portrait Gallery. The idea behind this project it to reinforce the human perspective and personal pledge of sharing the road.

When members of the community and PDOT sat down to decide on a slogan for this campaign, I thought “Share the Road” was trite and too much of a command. I wanted the slogan to cause people to reflect on their own behavior rather than just get defensive and tune it out. I suggested adding an “I” and making it, “I Share the Road.” Thankfully everyone agreed.

This portrait gallery is an extension of the slogan and hopefully in the future we will see these images on billboard ads throughout the city to remind people that sharing the road is up to all of us.

From a grade school kid who walks to school to a student who rides his bike to PSU and even a Commander in the Portland Police Bureau, the I Share Gallery is meant to show that we all have a responsibility to share the road and that we’re all in this together.

Check back for a new portrait each week.
